  • At around $1.27 per serving, it’s a solid value pick.
  • Mixes well: clump-free shake when you blend with 6-8 ounces of water.
  • The chocolate peanut butter flavor is a standout, scoring a 7/10 in my taste test.
  • The Body Fortress brand has been a staple in the supplement world for over 20 years.

  • Contains artificial flavoring and sweeteners
  • Not ideal for plant-based or dairy-free diets

Our Verdict

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly protein that tastes and mixes well, Body Fortress Whey Protein is a great choice. I scored the chocolate peanut butter flavor a 7/10 in my taste test, and a 7/10 in mixability.

But, if you prefer natural ingredients or follow a plant-based or dairy-free diet, and aren’t opposed to paying a premium for it, it may not be the best fit. I scored its Nutritional Value a 6.5/10 because it contains artificial flavoring and sweeteners.

Overall, a solid, affordable option if you’re on a budget, but if you have specific dietary restrictions or prefer all-natural ingredients, there are better options out there.

My Experience with Body Fortress Whey Protein:

Taste Test (6.33)

I put all three Body Fortress Whey Protein flavors to the test: chocolate peanut butter, vanilla, and strawberry.

The standout was definitely the chocolate peanut butter, which earned a solid 7/10. If you’re a fan of that classic combo, you’ll likely enjoy this flavor.

Vanilla came in second with a respectable 6.5/10, making it a good choice if you prefer a more neutral taste. And strawberry fell a bit short, scoring a 5.5/10 due to its somewhat medicinal taste.

Overall, if taste is a top priority for you, I would recommend the chocolate peanut butter, followed by the vanilla.

Bang for your buck (10)

At around $1.27 per serving, Body Fortress earned a 7.5/10 for bang for your buck. It’s more affordable than Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard at $1.56 per serving, Ascent Whey Protein at $1.48 per serving, and Ghost Whey at $1.65 per serving.

It costs around 4 cents per gram of protein, which is cheaper than Isopure’s Zero/Low Carb line (both Flavored and Unflavored) at 8 cents per gram. The trade-off, however, is the ingredient profile. With Body Fortress, you’re only getting 67% density, whereas with something like Isopure, you’re getting nearly 100% density. (Density as in the amount of protein per calories)

In other words, if you’re looking to get the most protein for your dollar, Body Fortress Whey is definitely worth considering. While it may not be the densest protein on the market, it’s at least easy on your wallet.

Nutritional value (6.5)

Body Fortress contains 180 calories per serving which is more than some of its competitor. Dymatize ISO100 contains 120 calories per serving, and Isopure Zero/Low Carb contains 100 calories per serving. If you’re looking to put on mass or for a protein shake that doubles as a protein shake, consider this a good thing.

In terms of protein density, Body Fortress offers a solid 67% of calories from protein. While this is lower than some other options like Isopure (100%) and Ascent (83%), it’s still a respectable amount, especially considering the affordable price point.

It has 3 grams of sugar per serving, which is comparable to the rest of the market. If you’re trying to avoid sugar, Dymatize ISO100 (1 gram) or Isopure Zero/Low Carb (0 grams) might be better options.

One potential drawback of Body Fortress is the artificial sweeteners, namely sucralose and acesulfame potassium. If you’re looking for a protein with natural sweeteners like stevia or monk fruit extract, Ghost Whey, Isopure Natural, or Ascent are likely better options.

Mixability (7)

I scored Body Fortress a solid 7/10 in mixability. It blended smoothly with 6-8 ounces of water, creating a clump-free shake without any unpleasant lumps or bumps. Which is somewhat surprising for such an affordable protein.

The vanilla flavor did get a bit foamy during mixing, but it didn’t significantly impact the overall drinking experience. If you prefer a completely foam-free shake, keep this in mind.

While not quite as smooth as some of the premium options like Black Magic Multi-Source and SEEQ Whey, Body Fortress Whey is still good enough to drink consistently. Whether you’re mixing at home or on the go, you can expect a relatively smooth experience without any clumping or chalkiness.

Brand reputation (7)

Body Fortress has been a trusted name in the supplement industry for over two decades, which speaks volumes about their commitment to quality and consistency. I feel confident choosing a brand with such a well-established track record.

One thing I appreciate about Body Fortress is their focus on affordability. They understand that not everyone has deep pockets, and they’ve made it their mission to provide reliable options to fitness enthusiasts of all levels, regardless of pocket depth.

While Body Fortress isn’t as prolific as some of the uber-premium, heavily marketed brands, they’ve built a loyal following who value a solid performance at a reasonable price point. If you’re looking for a dependable protein powder that won’t break the bank, Body Fortress is definitely worth considering.

What Do Other People Think About This Protein?

Here’s what other people are saying about Body Fortress whey protein elsewhere online:

  • Lots of people like the chocolate flavor, which some describe as rich and satisfying, even comparing it to hot cocoa.
  • Some the large serving size can be misleading, but most agree that Body Fortress still provides a good amount of protein per dollar spent.
  • Customers like the value, noting that Body Fortress offers a high-quality protein at a much lower price point than many competitors.
  • People like the versatility of this protein, mentioning that it mixes well with various ingredients like milk, peanut butter, and even eggs for an extra protein boost.

  • Some customers found the large serving size misleading, as you need to use a much bigger scoop to reach the advertised 60 grams of protein.
  • Some people experienced digestive issues like bloating and gas, even those who typically have no problems with dairy or other protein powders.

Final Thoughts

I would recommend Body Fortress Whey Protein:

  • If you’re trying to gain weight or build muscle mass on a budget
  • If you’re looking for a mid-tier protein to power your workouts and fuel your recovery
  • If you enjoy rich, creamy flavors like chocolate, and don’t mind some artificial flavoring

I would NOT recommend Body Fortress Whey:

  • If you’re looking for a low-calorie, lean protein powder
  • If you don’t mind paying a premium to avoid artificial flavoring
